Manamaalai.com - Cinimaalai - Review of Tamil movie "Whistle"

Whistle claims to be a college thriller movie.  The film appears to be a re-make of the English Movie 'Urban Legend' .  

Anjali (Gayathri Raghuram) and Maya (Shareen) are studying in the same college.  Livingston works as a Professor in that college, is a expert in talking to spirits and he always mentions about Naaga, a girl, who died long long back.  A temple built on her grave, was demolished and the college was built.  On the  Whistle Day of the college, Shereen's sister is killed mysteriously.  Then comes a series of killings of those concerned with the killing of Shereen's sister, one by one, mysteriously.   Everyone believes that these killings are effected by the ghost of the girl Naaga as the college is  built on her grave.  The story then concentrates on finding out the murderers.  The mystery is maintained till the end of the movie.

Shrereen plays the prominent role. To add to glamour, in one of the scenes, she licks and takes the ice cream from the face of the hero.  (How does this scene escape from censor?)  Gayathri Raghuram has another important role and she does her job nicely.   As the movie is heroine driven, there is not  much work for the hero - Vikramaditya (a new face).  Vivek Plays the comedy track.  Even this comedy appears to be derived from another English movie.  He receives electric shock and after treatment receives a special shakthi to  read  whatever females and animals and birds think in their mind.  The comedy is very much enjoyable.  Screenplay by Sujatha is good.  Bhanuchandar and  Rajkapoor also make their appearances.

Jedi-Jerry brothers have directed the movie and have done a wonderful job.  Till the end of the movie, the directors maintain the suspense behind the killings.  Some of the scenes bring out real horror like hollywood movies.  Music by Imam is pleasent and suits the suspense nature of the movie.   The song 'Alagiya Asura" sung by Anita, reminds us of "Vaseegara" song but is good. 

In all, Whistle is a good thriller and horror movie.  It could have sounded better but for the very light storyline and for the minor mistakes.
